Most MH axles are DEXTER axles, which is the leader in trailer axles. The problem is that what ends up on utility trailers are very, and I must emphasize....VERY.... used axles which have thousands of grossly overloaded miles on them. I used to by them from a MH moving company for $35.00 each and I would make hay wagons from them. Most of the older ones were 3500 lbs axles, but latley they have been 6000 lbs axles. The MH manufactures are using heavier axles so they can use fewer of them to save on tolls on the pikes.
If you are going to build a trailer I would buy BRAND NEW axles, springs, hangers, equalizers and mounting hardware. It is not that expensive as you can get a complete kit for a 10000 lbs axle for about $125.00.....of course you still need to buy a rim and tire which will add to the cost.
