I think the answer to your question is 1951. According to the model year detail page that is the year the gauges were moved to the center of the dash.
Oh ya, the needle fell off of my speedo also... I've temporarily fixed it by cutting a thin piece of clear plastic the same diameter of the needle ring, clamping it in place with the tabs on the ring, and gluing it to the plastic piece on the shaft. I did this ONLY to check the operation and cal of the speedo (which seems fine) I plan on having it rebuilt/restored (someday) by a speedo shop.
If you need one, I’m not sure, but VPW probably has one.
