Use studs when re-installing trannys

Long bolts, or pieces of all-thread, that you can screw into the bell housing. Then slide the tranny down the bolts. It prevents bending of the clutch disc, making you re-co it, but you won't figure it out until it's all done and on the road.

In my younger days I would remove the floor boards, hold the tranny in with one hand on the shift lever while removing the last bolt with the other hand, then use both hands on the shift lever to pull the tranny back, and lower it to the floor. Reverse order to re-install, grab a hold of the lever, lift and install by sliding down the studs. Pushing the clutch pedal with the left foot lets the disc float around while you jiggle the lever. Ka-bong. Just like ringing a bell, in it goes. That's why they call it a bell housing.;)

Nowadays, I use a jack, or an engine hoist in through the door.
