I have bought and sold several Dodge and Jeep belt pulleys for under $500.00. What the unit on ebay had going for it was that it was complete with the pillow block, front and rear shafts, hanger bearing, and belt pulley.

Complete Jeep units contain the rear PTO gearbox (the belt pulley mounts to this [sort of a cousin to the Dodge pillow block]), shaft with special bellows over the joints, and belt pulley.

As with the Dodge setup, complete Jeep setups are not normally found for sale complete with all parts. When they are, the prices approach those of the complete Dodge assemblies.

The problem with reproducing either the Jeep or Dodge parts is that they are composed so so many cast housings, bevel gears, and splined shafts. Parts that are quite expensive to reproduce in small quantities as the tooling needs to be used for hundreds, maybe thousands, of times to pay for itself.

Marty was looking into the costs of reproducing the gears needed for a belt pulley. Maybe he has some figures to share to give us an idea.

But a purse is so practical....
