For ffs that is. I went by a mechanics shop that has an m37 converted to the bigger military axles with 20 in. wheels and a 3.8 something cummins v8 diesel with a dana 5sp od out of the bigger military truck. He said he has tried all kinds of motors from a detroit to diff. gas v8s, he has had 6 motors in the truck and has had it for twenty years. He said the v8 diesel he has in it now works good goes down the road well but heīs had it with diesels and is going back to a chevy 383(I believe he said), he said the bore and stroke comp. etc is the best for the application. I wonder what a comparable dodge motor would be.
Anyway I told him I was looking for a parts truck and he told me about a truck about 15 min. away that was for sale. When he described it it rang a bell as I had seen it I guess about ten years ago and asked the old fellow if he would sell but he said no way as he uses it everyear to haul his coffee crop to market. He bought it new from the dealer way back when, looks like a 50`s something model. Well the mechanic told me the ole man was selling it now as he`s not going to work the farm anymore so I went by and talked to his wife as he wasn`t there and she said no they were never going to sell it. Boy talk about a rust free truck, not a drop of rust anywhere as far as I could tell, couldnīt get close enough to get a good look at the frame but if it is anything like the cab hood and fenders itīs a gem. Hopefully the wife doesn`t know her husband has decided to sell. I`m gonna give it another shot and try to go direct to the ole man.
Tommorrow Iīm going to look for another truck I talked to the owners about probably 15 years ago if not more who wouldn`t sell either, again farmers. It was a 1968 they bought new from the dealer also, so Iīm going to have a look and see it is still there. On top of that I have another lead that if itīs true there may be up to ten put out to pasture ff in one place. Wish me luck!!!!!
