I would not include redwood in with teak or iron wood for strength. Resistance to rot, yes.
However ANY wood, including the three you mentioned, will need some sort of finish to make it last. Either a surface coat (Varnish or Polyurethane) which will need re-coating periodically, or deep penetrating material, which will take several initial coats, and less frequent re-coating. But if it's left unfinished, any wood will eventually rot.
