About 5 years ago my sons and I built a house on the lake, mostly supported by I-Beams which cantilevered off of some major concrete footings and anchors into solid rock. We were very careful about rocks getting away and rolling into the lake, because I knew this was an issue. Since we were dynamiting and digging with a track hoe on the side of solid rock, it was impossible to avoid some rocks getting away. Later that winter, when they lowered the lake level, I got a call from an officer of the Army Corps of Engineers and was told to meet him at the site. Long story short, a neighbor had complained (imagine that?) and we were forced to remove about 30 rocks from the lake. These ranged from basketball size to engine block size. The ridiculous part is that the entire lake bottom as far as I could see in any direction was covered with the same kind of rock fragments which went into the lake when the road was built. If I had requested and been granted a permit before the work was done, I would have been allowed to let a pre-determined amount of rock roll into the lake. Talk about governmental absurdity!! JH
