....do "fancy names" make a product "junk"?

Let's think about that a little harder:

"Mudder" - The Gateway Tire Company Inc., maker of the Gumbo Monster Mudder, gave the tire the name of "Mudder" because traction in that environment is its specialty. Their self-cleaning ability and tendency to "float" have been respected by four-wheelers since the 1970's.

"Super Swamper" - Made by Interco, also relates its name directly to its specialty. They focus on sidewall lugs for increased traction in ruts and staggered and varying size lugs for additional bite and quiet pavement operation.

With the "junk" logic, the Dodge "Power Wagon" would be the king of the fancy names, and the junkiest - no?

I have four-wheeled across the Midwest and have run the following tires on various trucks:

Mickey Thompson Bajas
Denman Ground Hawgs
Gateway Gumbo Monster Mudders
Dick Cepek Mud Countrys
Armstrong Tru-Tracks
Widetrack Mud Terrains
Goodyear Wranglers

I liked some better than others for various reasons, but I found none of them to be "junk". They all had their good points and bad points. But then - I never had the opportunity to compare them to a Michelin. However, I think that 11.00r16 Michelins would look stupid on the old four-wheelers I used to drive. Nothing hurts the performance of a product more than the subconscious impact from a product appearing as stupid to its user.

Oh, I also ran Metzlers on my Elsinors, YZs, and Maicos, but those were not real race bikes like Nortons, so the cool look was a real boost to the self confidence.
