I got my 540 direct from a 57 D500 in a junk yard for $200-$250 and i think it is in pretty good shape. The 57 D500 was probably a low mileage side dump farm truck. It has a rear output Dana PTO on the right side. The OD 540 might not be more $ if the junk yard guy doesn't know it is OD. 4th & 5th position are reversed. I have a drawing of the Dodge mounting bolt pattern if you want it. A lot of Dodge Truck Poly 318 bells were drilled for 3spd, 420/435 and 540. Mine is.

It looks much like my Dodge 540, but I think 1 or 2 on the mounting holes are different. My Dodge input shaft is 10 spline 1.38 with a .75 pilot shaft. G
