The 6.0 has had issues. Mine has been very solid and is always run with a minimum GCVW of 13K.

Talking to my FORD shop there a a couple of reasons for many of the problems.

A big problem are the aftermarket "Jack up the HP" goodies. Many put the engine beyond it's design limits which results in premature failure.

Another problem is that people take a lot of short trips in them. The engines never heat up so you get a lot of carbon build up. Diesel engines are made for running on the road not for short start up shut down trips. On my truck, if you divide the number of miles on it by the engine hours you will see that I average 45+ miles for every hour that engine is running.

Ford has had some design issues especially with the turbos and EGR valves. Again these were carbon build up issues. They did not allow for the short trip mentality of many drivers.

I expect to get ripped for these comments.
