countless good guys went the way of the dodo bird when the big guys came into town. the lure of cheap prices and extended hours beat the independents into submission. now that the small guys are gone, the big shops have raised their prices and reduced their hours and manning levels. hard to get someone to find you a single esoteric item, isn't it? the internet didn't help either. print out a low sale price, bring it to the local guy, he matches the price and starves. i'd gladly give up the internet to go back to 'better' times. remember life before cell phones and email? everything still got done....
