Thicker insulation for race engines. High compression high performance engines using high resistance spark plugs benefit from thicker insulation on the plug wires to reduce/eliminate spark leakage.
More options = more buyers = more $$$
I make and use the old style solid wire leads on all my off-road vehicles - never have to replace, no leakage, no carbon impregnation to break down, etc and you KNOW they will carry electricity. Oh yes and they are RED.
