The problem on a 230/251 is the weak link is the crank. All our pumps, generators & welders here at the Shipyard used to be Chrysler Ind flatheads & they usually reach the end via bad crank which equals bad oil pressure.
I think it all depends on the condition of your engine...very few I've ever seen are very clean inside & so if you're capable of assembly & disassembly yourself...the parts really aren't that expensive & hot tanking & the machining...well that's really the most important part to get all the crap out if you plan to have a reliable power plant.
I think lots of Power Wagon owners have been tricked into thinking their engine has low hours on it because the mileage is often low. Most low mileage PW engines I've taken apart look to have lots & lots-O idling hours on them or hours driving a big fire pump :)
