Here are the questions for the M1 experts:

1. Should the operating rod tube be straight or have a slight curve to it?
2. If it is to have a slight curve, should the tube rub the barrel?

I’m thinking the operating rod is defective:
After pulling the operating rod back to latch it, it does latch, however, when you load a cartridge clip, and release thumb pressure, the rod does not return, it remains in place with the latch open. You have to manually return the rod to lock the bolt.

The other problem is that it does not go back far enough to load another cartridge after firing a round. You have to manually pull the rod to load a round each time. The hammer and rod springs are heavier than STD which is typical; I don’t see that as a problem.

There is a 6 inches rubbing mark where the tube rubs the barrel and the tub itself has rubbing marks. I believe to much friction could be causing the malfunctions.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks
