Exhaust Thoughts

So when I started my FFPW project, I had a 251 with old exhaust. It had that "old truck sound". I have moved to a 360, and had been driving with 1 and 1/3 exhaust (no muffler on half the v8 for the first few test runs. Needless to say with that setup it was hard to hear yourself think. I have since fixed the exhaust, and am a little saddened to not hear much of anything now.... Any thoughts on exhaust, and how much sound makes the truck?
