The patent was only granted on May 14, 1957. It was earlier applied for on Aug 23, 1955. It is not unusual for the process from application to actual granting of a patent to take several years.

Based upon what I have seen happen with other equipment, if Truckstell applied for a patent on Aug 23, 1955, it is entirely possible that they had been developing their version of the swivel assembly for a few months prior to that, maybe even a year or more. Some early models (possibly considered premliminary, prototype, test, or pilot models) may have been installed on trucks prior to the filing of the patent application. This, quite possibly, could have taken place early in 1955, or even before.

Would they have wanted to spend the money on, and cut up, a new Power-Wagon in order to test fit one of their assemblies that may have been still in the development stage? That would be anyone's guess. It would be remotely possible (thought maybe unlikely) that they may have searched around and found a '46 model Power-Wagon for sale and used that for their test mule.

I think the possibility that conversions were installed on some trucks already in customers possession was high. Owner installed? I don't know.
