It doesn't, but it gives a false reading which leads one to think that something bad is about to happen. mine wasn't leaking at all, but was messed up nonetheless. on the outside chance it wasn't the sending unit it's not worth the risk of toasting my cummins. when your truck is equiped with only one guage you have to rely on what it tells you. in this case it was a lie, and I'm glad it was. I may shortly install a wet guage as a back-up. Dave.
