I still have an nice original bed, and I haven't done anything else to it, except the modification of the dented and rusted out bed. All of the original parts and pieces are going in a box.
But if you want it, the time to buck up is now. I've dealt with too many dreamers and manure merchants shining me on to hold up progress.
