If you decide to fabricate, the first thing t do is remove the sliding clutch and polish the shaft and the surface in the clutch that slides on the shaft. ANY roughness will make shifting the winch (which is a rather poor design in the first place) harder. If you want me to draw a sketch and give you dimensions from the pivot point, let me know. I'll be glad to do it. Do you have the little bracket on the winch that the whole mechanism pivots on? Here is a picture of the one I fabricated (on right)from a model (on left) that someone loaned me.
