I thought mine was malleable iron. The end support was bent downward and had a small crack, which I brazed after unbending.
Also, the front coupling that has the shear pin is supposed to have a zerk fitting. Keep that joint lubed so it doesn't rust up solid and negate the shear pin. Mine needed heat and a puller to get it apart, but after cleaning out the rust slid back together easily.
