With electric wipers there is a hole about 1/4 inch below the main wiper drive shaft hole. This hole is for a bolt/screw that assists in holding the wiper motor stable during operation to prevent it from twisting. If you look in the parts manuals, and look at the electric wiper diagram I think you will see what I'm talking about....of course I could have just rambled about a hole that you weren't talking about!
