Take the little plug in the top of the head at #6, fit a dial gauge and rod so it touches the top of the piston and turn the motor over clockwise with the crank handle until you get the highest reading. That is TDC, so mark the crank pulley and chain cover in a place where you can see it. With the spark plugs in, sit something over or partially in the hole at #6 and wind over the motor, when the object blows out you are on compression stroke.
