Here's the results of one cougar hunt, probably around 1910 in the Molalla area.

I've seen two of them in the wild in my life. Probably dozens of them have watched me. They're extremely stealthy. Around here they're scared of people, though I did have a friend who got jumped by one and had the slashed shirt to prove it. He was an old man, bent over in a low spot picking huckleberries, so I suppose the cat thought it could take him down. The cat didn't figuring on the .44, though. Had another friend who had one as a pet when she was little (on Vancouver Island). Somebody had shot the mother and then discovered the kittens and offered her one for a pet. It slept in her bed with her until it was full grown. Pretty amazing. Eventually they had to get rid of it because it started jumping on people and stalking the neighbor's children.
