I've got my eye on a US Navy 1951 Gerstenslager Power Wagon ambulance. I'll be purchasing it in a month or so when another vehicle sells. My plans are to keep front sheetmetal, frame and drivetrain and get rid of the ambulance body and rear frame extentions. If your heart is set on an ambulance I think I can help you out.
