In the September/October issue of Colorado Outdoors, a magazine published by the Colorado Dept of Natural Resources and Dept of Wildlife, there is an article titled "The Study of Lions". I don't know if it';s available online, I get it via subscription.

A few tidbits concerning mountain lions, aka cougar, puma, panther and painter:

"Although they do take other species, lions prey largely on deer" In fact, researchers have estimated that, over the course of the year, an adult lion will need to kill a deer every six to eight days and/or an elk every 10 to 14 days to survive."

...

males: 8 feet long and between 140-160 pounds
females: "7 feet long and between 70-110 pounds

...

"...inhabit most areas fo the state and are even occasionally reported ont eh Eastern Plains. 'They probably travel the ricvers all the way to Kansas'"

...

"...lions establish home ranges that vary in size from 10 to 370 square miles. Male claim territories four to five times larger than females"

...

"In short, the mountain lion is simultaneously the most ubiquitous, elusive and effective of the state's big carnivores."

Ken
