Water pump fitting is to the inlet side, like the lower hose

I don't know that you have the right pump?

The tap into the lower hose was early. It acted as a by-pass since the water from the heater would come back in to the lower hose. There used to be a clamp-in fitting that could be installed in the low hose, or the bent pipe had a tee brazed in.

The water outlet on my FFPW was chipped, so I went ahead and sawed it off, and tapped for a pipe plug. (no fun, should have brazed a cap on) With that nipple eliminated, I had room to screw an elbow fitting into the pump. A 'faucet' screwed into the head, and a loop of hose between them makes a by-pass. Some day I'll restore a heater or two, the truck is all ready.
