I would not use heat except as a last resort. If they have the original tires, the bead should brake easily from the rim. Just spray water between the flange and rim and use a screw driver to drive in the gap between the rim and flange. If you're going to replace the tires, cut the tires off if you can't separate the two. With the tires off, it's much easier to get them apart.
