Your right they don't fit. Take a look at any post by Tom Petrof and look at his pics that he includes with the post. I built the yellow WC-63 with the civilian cab. It has a 12 valve 6BT. I had to cut way into the firewall. Send me an e-mail (rjones820@comcast.net) and I will send you some pictures.
