It does not sound too warm. They do get warm the gears and bearing do create heat under normal circumstances. To be sure it might be best to check just a couple of things. Is the oil up to the correct level? If you can get the little drain plug out, drain a little oil and check it for color and smell to make sure it is not burnt. Also check for excessive metal in the first bit of oil that comes out. Make sure that you catch any oil that comes out of the diff.

Check to see if there is excessive wrap in the pinion. With the wheels on the ground disconnect the drive shaft at the dfferential. Then grab the yoke and rotate it back and fourth. There will be a little wrap/slop but it should not be much. There will be greater wrap if you have a locker. While you have the drive line off make sure that the yoke is not loose at all (they do tend to loosen). Also make sure that the pinion seal is not leaking.

Also, does your differential make much noise when you are traveling? If not then just keep an eye on things.
