Mike, my 58 ff is about the same, it also has the 5.83 gears. I checked mine after I had just put a locker in and I thought it was too hot. I then checked it about ten times in a row under different circumstances, loaded, unloaded, two miles to twenty miles, it didn't seem to make much difference so I figured it was normal. but I was sure that the clearences were right, just having had the rear apart. sounds normal to me. P.S. I run mobil 1 in mine. Dave.
