That's a good idea. I once drilled and tapped a new fill plug hole in a differential housing where I couldn't get the buggered up old filler plug out. I just got back from the auto parts and have the new U joint in hand, though, so I'll go ahead and put it in. Fortunately they're only $12, not $40 like the ones on the Tucker. I definitely won't throw out the old one though. I'll keep it until I get one of those zerk-fixer tools that Vaughn mentioned in my next Fastenal order, and if that doesn't work, I'll do like you suggested. Either way I'll keep the old one for future use.

By the way, this is on a Chevy. I'd like to hope that even in 1967, Dodge used U-joints with zerks in them instead of trying to save a nickel apiece by doing without the zerks. The main thing is I don't want to have to change them out again when I'm 92!
