I am trying to understand the principles of this posting regarding net & gross. Can anybody elaborate a little on this matter ?

Compression Ratio . . . . . . 7.1 to 1
Max. Gross HP, @ RPM . . . . 125 @ 3600
Max. Net HP, @ RPM . . . . . . .115 @ 3600
