... it was the spare, had never been on the road, perfect condition. The tire aas about 7-8 years old when I got the truck. I rotated it onto the rear. The same day, I drove the truck someplace close, and came back, and went into the shop for 30 minutes or so. When I came out, that tire had literally exploded (I didn't hear it) - the sidewall had just spontaneously failed - no sign of any external damage, just a big rip. Never seen anything like it.
I run some very old bias ply heavy truck tires, because I have confidence that they don't fail that way. But radials, they're done with me after 6 years no matter the wear.
