If the point gap has reduced it will run ok at low rpm, but miss and spudder if you try to increase engine speed. This is a possibility - check point gap. I would think the problem might be with the fuel tank or filter. As the filter plugs, the engine will idle ok but as you increase speed, it will miss and cut out, like their is no power. It's a different symptom than electrical, that gives you a feeling of power when the engine hits.
