Steve and Duncan, Thanks for the info. I expect to strip the axels down and replace the knuckle bearings (I've replaced the bronze cones with 23256 tapered roller cones and added a hydralic damper on my other trucks, works great!), so I'll get a good look at things in a bit; I'll lay a straight rod through the housing end to end and check for center depression, as well as a careful investigation of the stub area.
