The transmission that runs backwards may fail quickly because it has been designed to run in the 'forward' direction. Then again, it may just run forever. Another option would be to stuff a Browning auxilliary transmission in between the existing transmission and transfer case. They are made to do the job that you want done, and they are readily available in various over and under drive gearing. Just my opinion. I hope your idea works if you do try it.
