I did some research in the early 80's when I got my first 64'WM300 to see what might interchange for a V-8 engine swap.I found that some early 60's Dodge truck SB V-8 bellhousings had multiple bolt and dowel holes on the engine side and would accept the L-6 flathead,slant-6,and 318.Even the later LA-318 will bolt to this bellhousing but the old style starter must be used.I found that these (universal type) bellhousings also had (2) sets of tranny bolt holes, one for the 3spd and one for the topload 4spd truck type. The V-8 bellhousing is 8" long and the PW L-6 is 7" long (eng. to tranny)requiring you to find tranny with or repace the pilot shaft to what you need.I was told by Kimberling truck parts in B'ham,AL. that they made 3 different lenght pilot shafts for the NP420.Personally I've never seen but 2.My WM300 has a NP420 and of course its shaft is 7" but I was given a eng.& tranny I took out of a 60' D-100 with was a L-6 230 attached to a V-8(universal type) bellhousing with a NP420 tranny which of course had the 8" shaft.According to the tech serv manual "S" series 100-600 models says that the WM and W300 use the same pressure plate # 1433. and that all I know for now.Find any sources for hemi-6's let me know first!
