I'm running a M-37 pump, the one with the priming lever. Bought it from either eBay or at Hollister. There are two nearly identical springs in it, one for the pump diaphragm, the other is to keep the lever from clanking against the cam. They are almost identical- .002" difference in wire thickness. I guess whoever rebuilt it last put them in the wrong places, it only made 1 1/2 psi running. OK for the B&B carb, not enough for the 2bbl. Swap them to correct locations, and now I get 3 1/2 psi.

In the meantime, I read up my 1952 Motors Manual on diaphragm replacement. It says the biggest problem is that rebuilders assemble the pumps with not enough diaphragm inside. So, I made some diaphragms with slotted screw holes. Assemble with the lever clamped in a neutral position, get the six screws started. Then unclamp the arm, allowing the spring to put pressure on the diaphragm, sucking it in to a 'stretched' position.

Diaphragms only, $10. Free mailing. 1/16" neoprene with nylon in the middle, ought to last long time in new gas. Pump must have a nut in the middle of the diaphragm, crimped ones are not applicable.
