There's lots more cross sectional area in the welded repair than there is in the bolt of the Heim joint. Plus the stock M37 drag links are adjustable to keep slop to a minimum.

I'm thinking that if I had an M-37 now, and was worried about it, I'd weld it pre-emptively. Get the best of both worlds havien the stud AND the flange, AND the weld, plus some annealing of the work embrittled shank.
