Dave, having spent 15 years in the melt shop of a steel mill, that if what you are working with is a mil spec steel it's hard telling what it is. the govt. keeps all that stuff a serect. it may be a sulphurized type of steel, or a leaded steel to have certain properties that they deem nessasary for a job. and it may be something that doesn't weld well. if that is the case it will be even harder to braze it. although I find it hard to beleive they would go to that much trouble for a crate, water proof or not. how is the crate put together? welded, bolted, or formed? with out standing there looking at it first hand, it's hard to offer an solution that I know will work for sure. good luck, and if you get it figured out let us know what worked. Dave.
