On the frames the stumbling block has always been the bending. Takes a person who REALLY knows what they are doing to get it done without kinks AND be exactly the same on every piece. Several had made the stock, they just couldn't get the bends correct.

That means dedicated tooling and a toolmaker/engineer that has loads of experience in the field. AVERAGE DieSets run anywhere from $30,000.00 AND UP so to make a mistake can hurt.

You really have to hand it to the old school craftsmen that did this on a daily basis with a LOT less complicated machines. They are schooling us even today and it's sad we've lost that to the push button engineering that's all the rage know.

I give you an example. Where I work the management was emvbarrased when a customer taking a tour said they couldn't believe we were making tight tolerance parts on such old machines. They decided to move the CNC stuff to the front where they could see it and started phasing out the manual stuff. EVEN though in some cases it was quicker, and trust me, LOADS less expensive maintinance wise.
I guess I'm different, as if I saw a bunch of high dollar equipment I'd think about the amount they are overcharging me to pay for all that.

My solution to solving the customer "viewing" problem was met with eyebrow raises. I told them to simply stop taking tours in the plant and let them imagine how it was made. win win situation, but much too simple and cost effective to be considered.

Good points on the pricing Eric
