find a way to get a better seal on the felt side and use a high quality high number oil.

my class 8 tractors and trailers use oil in the wheel ends.

if it is not possible to get that kind of seal and you cannot find artillery grease i would use red disc brake grease. the high heat grease is likely better than the military used and i have used it in my trucks, bob stahl uses in his and his customers trucks.

i think that this topic is one of those over thought deals. our trucks do not travel fast, hot, or for long periods of time. you will likely do better to use whatever grease you find good for you and service it on a regular basis.

i cannot think of anyone on the forum using their trucks in a manner that would generate heat or pressure enough to cause a grease related bearing failure.

likely the longest distance traveler at speed is paul in ny on his trips. he likely can go 60 mph on the highway. his trucks are perfectly zero time maintained and fully rebuilt with bearings top and bottom. i doubt he could get his hubs hot under those conditions.

likely the biggest abuser of the drivetrain is will. he offroads more than most. i do not think he will encounter a grease related bearing failure. he will break an axle or rear, causing a repair / replace / repack before he even heats his grease.

i know i will change my oil / grease in all cases and boxes on my truck before they reach their service interval.

i am confident that most power wagon oil changes come due to time limit and not mileage. 3-4000 miles in a 6 month period is a lot for the average pw guy. how many guys here do 8000 miles per year in a ffpw or variant?
