Hi John,
There is a sheetmetal cover on the bottom of the bellhousing. Has 4 or 6 small bolts that hold it on. Pull that off and you should have enough access to try to work a really thin putty knife blade in between the flywheel and the disc.
A lot easier than pulling the front clip, engine and tranny, but thats probably what the manual says to do.
