A light bulb with two wires attached is just as good in this case. You didn't blow the battery. If EVERYTHING is dead, one of the main wires from the battery came loose at one end or the other. You'll find it quickly with a test light or a volt meter. You might even find it just by wiggling them. Try turning on the headlights and then wiggling all the connections. If the lights come on, you'll know you found the bad spot.

As far as the clutch goes, I've had luck by blocking the pedal down and letting it set for a few weeks. It sounds like you drive yours from time to time, so it's probably not rusted solid. Just blocking the pedal down might do the job for you too.
