on ww2 trucks, the french often upgraded the wc 3/4 trucks to larger headlights. i think it had to do with something legal. i have a command car that the swiss had before me. it has 4 part bulb assemblies. they fit the stock housing. they are made up of the lens, the huge by large yellow bulb / a parking bulb and a bulb holder. i kept them (i actually sourced NOS units too) and wired the black out light circuit to the parking bulb. my stock blackout units have been replaced with amber turn signal units that have the same shape housings as stock blackouts + they have leaded glass amber lenses. it is a nice mod as i like the amber headlights and the turn signals look dead stock until they light up.
