I am new at this and gasoline engines in general.I purchased a 1963 aircraft tractor with either a 218 or 230 flatty(I gotta check the stroke). The carb is pretty FUBAR and I am confused on what kit I need and where the best place to buy it to rebuild the carb. From doing searches I have figured out it is a Carter Ball and Ball DTE2 carb.I hooked up a electric fuel pump and when I put power to it,I had fuel squirting out the vent tube and out the bottom of the float bowl where the linkage goes up through. What is the max PSI fuel to feed one of these?I opened the bowl and it is pretty scungy from sittig with a carb full of fuel.1/16th of an inch layer of brown waxy junk.pulled the needle valve and it looks great with a rubber tip.The float is still air tight and looks like new.Push comes to shove,is there a better carb for one of these engines and a dual carb setup intake other than the offy one?How about tube headers?Engine ran pretty good when we dumped fuel down the barrel.Love that flathead sound without a muffler.
