I've had some hassles there with my '67 Town Wagon. Apparently most wheels from '57 to '70 MAY fit, but after that it gets hazy. Seems to me my '77 D-200 Power Wagon wheel would fit, but not the '78 D-200 wheel. Spline counts were off, and the size/width of the unsplined area on spline end [at stering wheel] was different. Steering shaft diameters can be different also, have to check that as well.

On mine I ended up grafting part of a '77 shaft to my '67 TW shaft [with a reinforcement sleeve welded over welded shaft joint] & used a Borgeson u-joint coupling fitted to steering box shaft.

This was all fitted into the Townie steering column, whch was also extended with a piece of the '77 column tube welded to the '67 column tube. All this because steering column was too short, putting me too close to pedals, a real pain on long trips. Lots more real estate down there now.
