Found the problem.
After checking the ground cable and everything else people suggested I decided to replace the battery cables for the heck of it. They're cheap. Installed the negative cable and tried the lights and they worked :) That was it. Guess I should have checked the continuity of the cable itself. Oh well it's running and it has some new parts too which will likely make it more reliable. New + cable too.
