I've been thinking about the same thing. I want a receiver hitch and still have the pintle in place. I figure if the rear crossmember stands the strain of anything you connect to the pintle then it's going to handle anything a receiver with a 2" ball will throw at it. I haven't done the math yet, but I believe 4 x 7/16" gr8 properly torqued will be stronger than the single post (of dubious quality) towball. Bottom line is that the hitch construction has to be better than the ball strength.
