I haven't looked at the nickel want ads for a while, but picked one up recently to see what there was in the way of a small cat or excavator for sale. Of course I always look at the gun ads too. Generally, they have maybe half a dozen actual guns for sale, plus an equal number of ads for dealers, pawn shops, accessories, etc. I was shocked to see at least 70 gun ads that looked like legitimate private party ads, some selling multiple guns. The types of guns advertised were all over the place too; not just the usual old hunting rifles, but some unusual colectibles, desirable military rifles, good pistols and el-cheapo pistols, etc. I don't think I've ever seen an issue of the nickel ads with more than a dozen guns in it before, and during last winter's Obama paranoia, there was almost nothing. The only catch is that asking prices are still as high as ever.

I also see most calibers of ammo back in stock in the local stores, though again prices are still very high (close to $1/round for most rifle calibers), and they still don't have any primers. Looking at it on the positive side, it looks like the guns-and-ammo shortage is dissipating like all shortages eventually do. Looking at it the other way, times are tough and when a guy has to choose between paying the mortgage for another month and selling one of his guns, out goes the gun.
